Picture the scene…a romantic homemade dinner for two, candles and roses decorating the table, and the clinking of wine glasses as you spend your Valentine’s Day dinner with each other. And then a cockroach crawling five feet away catches both of your eyes from the dining table.

The ambiance is officially ruined.

Valentine’s Day and February, in general, are all about love and cupid, and showing appreciation for the ones you love! But that can be hard to focus on if you’re dealing with any type of pest infestation or pest control issues in your home. Here’s our list of 4 things we don’t love about pests:

  1. Sometimes They Bite

Let’s face it, nobody’s ever enjoyed an insect bite before…we’d be concerned if they did. Bug bites can become irritating, especially if they get you more than once. For most people, the itchiness will peak within 24 and 48 hours and subside in three to four days. However, for those with skin sensitivities, or even allergies, it may take up to 10 days for the bites to heal and the full itching to subside. And the hardest part is not itching them, even when you really want to!

Speaking of bug bites…

  1. They Can Carry Diseases and Cause Infections

Mosquitos, probably our most common frenemy in the NE Florida summers, and other pests can carry diseases, spreading them to whomever they bite. Mosquitos can carry malaria, dengue fever, and the Zika virus. While most mosquitos in North America and Canada do not carry diseases – only 12 out of the 200+ species found here, we can’t exactly choose which insects end up biting us, as much as we wish we could. We know – that sucks.

Other diseases that can be passed onto us from insects include Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus, and even the Heartland virus.

If you do itch your bug bites, this can lead to impetigo and cellulitis – both bacterial skin infections – sometimes requiring antibiotics to treat. If a bug bite starts showing redness or swelling that spreads wider after the initial 24-48 hours of the bite, you experience any fever/chill-like symptoms, or nausea may want to have a doctor check them out.

  1. They Have Creepy Crawly Appearances

As pest exterminators, we see all kinds of bugs. While we admit that we do find some of them to be pretty cool looking, the other ones are just plain creepy!

Some insects seem hairy and fuzzy, some have beady eyes that freak us out, and some have dozens of legs that make our skin crawl at the thought of them touching us. No thank you.

  1. They Can Become a Nuisance

Getting rid of pests and insects is hard enough, but it can make getting rid of your house more difficult too. When selling a house, buyers and realtors will usually push for you to have a WDO inspection (wood destroying organism) as part of your due diligence, in order to encourage buyers and maintain and/or raise property value.

We’re not just any other exterminator, we do pest control services differently. Russell Pest Solutions has been providing the highest quality, eco-friendly pest solutions in North-East Florida for 20+ years. If you are struggling with pest and termite control in the Jacksonville, FL area, we encourage you to contact us to schedule an inspection today.
